Chocolate MC Receives 10-Year Prison Sentence: Sister and Girlfriend Speak Out

Cuban reggaeton artist Yosvany Sierra Hernández, better known as Chocolate MC, has been sentenced to a decade in prison, followed by five years of probation. This comes after he accepted a plea deal resolving three criminal cases against him in Miami-Dade County.

During the court proceedings, the self-proclaimed "King of Reparto" appeared composed and at ease. Wearing a beard and glasses, he listened to the verdict with a calm demeanor, occasionally lowering his head but refraining from any emotional outbursts, as captured by the media present.

While incarcerated, the artist claims to have embraced Christianity, a personal transformation that those close to him attribute to his time behind bars. A confidant of the artist told Telemundo 51 that Chocolate accepted the ruling with resignation, stating, "I think he isn't happy with it, but he has accepted the situation."

His sister, Isis Sierra, expressed the family's discontent with the sentence, though she admitted it could have been worse. "We're not very happy about it," she said, "but it could have been longer, so in that sense, we're better off."

Isis also mentioned that she has observed changes in her brother since his imprisonment: "Every time I talk to him, I notice he’s different; he’s not the same person he used to be."

She shared an optimistic message for the reggaeton star's fans: "Even though he's in there, he'll keep working. He has his team working for him, and we're going to keep going. He's still here, he hasn't left. He's still present."

Following the court hearing, the singer's girlfriend also shared her thoughts. "I wish things had turned out differently, but he was found guilty," she lamented.

The court's decision coincided with a jury verdict that found him guilty of soliciting the murder of Damian Valdez Galloso, who is accused of being responsible for the death of fellow singer "El Taiger."

The plea agreement with prosecutors also addressed two additional pending cases: one involving the kidnapping of a fan and another concerning a theft from a hotel room. The guilty plea encompasses all three cases, resulting in a 10-year sentence that covers the entirety of the offenses.

After serving his prison term, Sierra Hernández will be subject to five years of probation, during which he will be under judicial supervision. This includes requirements such as undergoing mental health and substance abuse evaluations and adhering to a restraining order concerning the victims.

This resolution effectively concludes the legal proceedings that have kept the artist entangled in Florida's judicial system.
