A young Cuban woman has taken to TikTok to share the harrowing story of her deportation and the challenging journey of rebuilding her life in Cuba amid the country's ongoing economic crisis.
In a video shared on the @roxynails_ciudadreal account, she recounted her days as a university student when she decided to start a small nail business, inspired by her childhood passion for painting the nails of family and friends.
She explained that her husband gifted her the initial supplies needed to launch her venture. For over two years, she successfully ran her business until the pandemic exacerbated Cuba's already dire economic situation.
"Things got worse in Cuba, and we had to leave the country in search of a better future for ourselves and our family," she disclosed in the video.
The couple emigrated to Russia, where, according to her account, they faced harsh conditions. She worked as a cleaner in a two-story supermarket, while her husband took on other informal jobs.
As the war erupted, they decided to flee Russia and attempt to reach Spain. However, during their journey, they were apprehended and sent back to Cuba, an ordeal she described as one of the most challenging experiences of her life.
"We returned to Cuba with nothing," she stated.
Back on the island and without resources, she was determined to restart her nail business with her family's support, believing it was the only skill that could help her move forward.
The video has sparked numerous reactions on social media, highlighting the resilience of many Cuban migrants who, after unsuccessful attempts to emigrate, must start anew in a country plagued by shortages and a lack of opportunities.
