The dance community in Santiago de Cuba mourns the loss of Radamés Despaigne, the artistic director of the Caribe Swing company.

The news of Despaigne's passing was announced by the Provincial Artistic Representation Company and was echoed by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.

"Santiago's cultural scene is in mourning. It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the passing of Radamés Despaigne, the artistic director of Caribe Swing, a figure renowned for his dedication to dance and his impact on Santiago de Cuba's stages," Mayeta shared on Facebook.

Mayeta highlighted that Despaigne had "spent years as a dancer in the Santiago city, known for his discipline, charisma, and passion on stage."

"His talent also led him to work as a choreographer for the popular show Pasea La Placita, where he left his creative mark and trained new generations of dancers," Mayeta added.

Despaigne is fondly remembered by "colleagues, students, and friends as an exceptional person, always willing to teach, correct with respect, and foster the artistic growth of those around him. More than just a director, he was a guide, an inspiration, and a role model both on and off stage," Mayeta noted.

"His departure leaves a void in the cultural community, but also a legacy of rhythm, dedication, and love for dance that will live on in every choreography and every applause," he concluded.
