Alleged Miami Training for Cubans Who Set Sail for the Island

Thursday, February 26, 2026 by Richard Morales

Reports from those close to the individuals involved in the maritime incident off the coast of Villa Clara suggest that the Cubans aboard the Florida-registered speedboat may have undergone prior training in Miami before embarking on their journey to the island.

According to Facebook posts by Univision journalist Javier Díaz, who referenced accounts from family members, the group was reportedly preparing on a farm in South Florida and organizing via social media platforms like TikTok.

The sources consulted by the reporter claim this was not a migration attempt but rather a coordinated effort aimed at entering Cuba.

Relatives of some participants report losing contact with them just hours after they departed between 3:00 and 4:00 in the early morning.

According to these accounts, two boats set off, each carrying approximately ten individuals.

In a subsequent update, a young man named Ledian Padrón, believed to be between 24 and 25 years old, was identified as one of the alleged participants.

The Cuban government, however, maintains that the vessel was transporting armed individuals and that the incident led to a confrontation with Border Guard troops.

"It has been determined that the neutralized speedboat, registered in Florida as FL7726SH, was carrying 10 armed individuals who, according to preliminary statements from the detainees, intended to carry out an infiltration with terrorist objectives," the official statement claimed.

The case continues to spark conflicting accounts as the public awaits more official information to fully clarify what transpired.
