Thursday, February 26, 2026 by Isabella Sanchez

This Wednesday, the Cuban government released the names of individuals involved in an armed incident in the northeastern part of the El Pino channel, located in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province.

According to a detailed report from the Ministry of the Interior, a Florida-registered speedboat, identified by its registration FL7726SH, carried ten armed individuals. Preliminary statements from those apprehended suggest they intended to enter Cuban territory with what authorities describe as "terrorist purposes."

Authorities have announced the arrest of Amijail Sánchez González, Leordan Enrique Cruz Gómez, Conrado Galindo Sariol, José Manuel Rodríguez Castelló, Cristian Ernesto Acosta Guevara, and Roberto Azcorra Consuegra.

Michel Ortega Casanova was among the deceased, while efforts are underway to identify three other individuals who perished during the confrontation.

The official statement highlights that all involved are Cuban nationals residing in the United States, with some possessing criminal records.

Additionally, the report mentions that two of the detainees were previously listed in national records linked to earlier criminal investigations.

During the operation, authorities seized assault rifles, handguns, homemade incendiary devices, bulletproof vests, telescopic sights, and camouflage uniforms.

The Ministry of the Interior also reported the arrest of Duniel Hernández Santos within Cuban territory, who is allegedly connected to the group's reception.

Investigations are ongoing, according to the official notice, to thoroughly clarify the events.

The names of Amijail Sánchez González and Leordan Enrique Cruz Gómez, identified by the Ministry of the Interior following the Villa Clara incident, appear on a list updated by the Cuban regime last July and presented to the UN. This list is part of Cuba’s national registry of individuals deemed terrorists.

In the recent update, authorities included 62 individuals and 20 entities based abroad, primarily in the United States, accused of promoting, financing, or organizing actions against the Cuban state. The Cuban government has criticized the perceived impunity these individuals enjoy in the U.S.
