An international day of protests has been called for February 28 by Cuban exiles and activist networks to demand freedom for Cuba and to denounce the longstanding political system that has governed the island for over sixty years.

According to Click Cuba, a news outlet that publicized the event, these demonstrations will occur simultaneously in cities across Europe, North America, and Latin America. This coordinated effort aims to highlight the ongoing political, economic, and social crisis in Cuba.

The organizers have shared a detailed schedule of gatherings, revealing that in Spain, protests will take place in cities like Málaga, Madrid, Alicante, Barcelona, and Bilbao. Additional demonstrations are set for Stockholm, Sweden; Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal in Canada; Montevideo, Uruguay; and Brasília, Brazil.

In Europe, many of the protests will be held in central squares and prominent locations to maximize public visibility. In the Americas, the objective is to broaden the reach of their demands and intensify international pressure.

This initiative also serves as support for external pressure strategies against the Cuban regime and as a platform to spotlight the plight of political prisoners and the lack of fundamental freedoms on the island.

Organizers have extended an invitation not only to the Cuban community but also to individuals of other nationalities who wish to stand in solidarity with the cause for democracy and human rights in Cuba. They describe this as a unified display of international civic pressure.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, the Cuban-Basque Association Demokrazia Kubarentzat emphasized that "Cuba is experiencing one of the most critical phases in its recent history. The repression of dissent continues, political prisoners remain incarcerated for demanding basic rights, and the population is grappling with a severe crisis marked by scarcity."

The association further stated in their communiqué, "This is not merely an economic hardship but a structural reality where essential civil and political rights are denied."
