Surveillance Footage Reveals Final Moments of Locksmith Fatally Shot by Cuban in West Miami

Wednesday, February 25, 2026 by Richard Morales

A security camera captured the tragic final moments of Adrián Venero, a 37-year-old locksmith, who was shot in the head by a Cuban man while working at an apartment complex in West Miami.

The footage initially shows Venero walking alongside his eventual killer, Luis David Lemus, down the corridor of the building located at 6355 Southwest Eighth Street.

In the video, Venero can be seen pulling a trolley suitcase filled with his tools and allowing the apartment owner, who is carrying a red backpack, to pass as they approach the unit.

Mere minutes later, Lemus's visibly distressed father enters the scene, demanding to know why his son committed the act.

Lemus's father confronts him, exclaiming, “How could you do this to that man? A man who came to help you... a poor soul with children.”

The surveillance system was instrumental for law enforcement, allowing them to meticulously trace the events before and after the shooting, crucial for swiftly identifying the suspect.

Authorities stated that while Venero was working on the apartment's lock, Lemus pulled out a firearm and shot him point-blank in the head.

The West Miami Police Department reported that Venero was discovered deceased in the seventh-floor hallway and was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m. on February 20.

Apprehension of the Suspect

Thanks to the building's video surveillance, investigators quickly identified Luis David Lemus as the primary suspect within hours.

The Robbery Tactical Unit located him around 12:11 a.m. the following day at the intersection of Southwest 52 Court and Southwest Seventh Street.

Lemus is facing a second-degree murder charge with the use of a deadly weapon and remains in custody without bail.

A Silent Court Appearance

On Monday, the accused appeared before a Miami-Dade court via video link from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK).

According to Telemundo 51, Lemus did not respond to Judge Mindy Glazer's inquiries, who attempted to verify whether he spoke English. He also did not reply to the Spanish interpreter.

During the court hearing, Lemus was seen initially standing in front of the camera, then sitting, and finally lying down under a blanket as the proceedings continued.

The court appointed him a public defender, and the judge upheld the prosecution's request to keep him in custody without bail eligibility.

He was reminded of his right to remain silent and instructed not to discuss the case with others.

The Heartbreak of a Family

Behind the footage serving as judicial evidence lies a family shattered by grief.

Nicole Galvis, the victim's wife, shared with Telemundo 51 her growing concern when her husband stopped communicating.

“I knew something was wrong because he always calls me and I hadn't heard from him in a couple of hours. I checked his location and saw no movement and he wasn't answering my calls. I felt something was off and went to the site, saw the crime scene and all the police, and that's when detectives informed me what happened,” she recounted.

Galvis described the difficult moment of telling their children, aged nine and thirteen: “We told the kids that daddy passed away, that someone very bad took his life while he was working.”

She emphasized that their children struggle to comprehend the situation: “He was just working and the man simply shot him in the head. That's all I know.”

The impact has deeply affected the entire family circle. “My kids are devastated, his entire family, his brothers, his sister, his mom, his dad. Everyone is affected, his friends,” she expressed.

Through tears, she pleaded for justice: “Please, let justice be served. Because this is not right, this is so unfair. He was just helping.”
