Five Unbelievable Aspects of Cuban Soap Operas

Sunday, March 1, 2026 by Sophia Martinez

Content creator Julio Alberto (@soy_____julio) sparked laughter and discussion online with a video listing "five things no one believes in Cuban soap operas."

Ranking fifth on his list was migration. "No character who has the chance to leave the country ever wants to. If they're trying to depict the reality of Cuba, nothing is more inconsistent than that," the young man stated.

In the fourth spot was the absence of fans. "It's the national appliance and they don't show it," he remarked, highlighting their necessity in Cuban homes due to the heat and power outages.

The third point concerned bedside lamps. Julio noted that nearly every character in these shows has one by their bed, while in reality, many homes barely have a single ceiling light and lack additional outlets for charging cell phones.

Second on his list was the portrayal of meals. "At breakfast, there's always a pitcher of juice. I suppose it's instant drink mix because there's no orange in Cuba," he quipped. He also questioned the frequent presence of bread and toast amidst scarcity.

His number one spot went to transportation: "Most characters have their own cars. How many people in Cuba actually own cars?" With humor, the video highlights the gap between television fiction and everyday life on the Island.
