Monday, February 23, 2026 by Albert Rivera

A Miami-based Cuban woman recently took to TikTok to share her experience upon returning from Cuba, amid the island's ongoing energy crisis, fuel shortages, and the uncertainty affecting countless families.

In a video posted on February 20th on the account @laritzacrespo1, she detailed her "little anecdote" to guide those who may need to travel to Cuba for personal reasons or to visit their children.

“I know social media tells us not to go to Cuba, that it's the worst time,” she remarked, referencing the power outages and fuel issues plaguing the nation. However, she noted that her return to the United States was smooth.

She recounted that upon arrival at Miami International Airport, the immigration process was uneventful. There were separate lines for permanent residents and U.S. citizens. “The officer asked how many days I spent in Cuba and what my occupation in the United States was. That was it,” she stated. In past trips, she had faced more questions, such as how she funded her travels or how she brought money into the U.S., but not this time.

She also mentioned that she did not see anyone being taken to the infamous "little room" for further inspection, except for one young woman. This was her first trip to Cuba, and she had declared bringing back cigars and alcoholic beverages.

“We all know that you can't bring anything from Cuba,” she said in the video, referring to the current restrictions.

While acknowledging that “it's not the best time to go to Cuba” due to the country's challenging situation, the woman offered reassurance to those who must travel for family or personal matters. “If you have to go, don't be afraid. Everything is very calm,” she expressed, while cautioning that the reality on the island remains tough for its residents.

Her story has sparked reactions among users who are discussing the risks, regulations, and experiences of traveling between Cuba and the United States amid the current political and economic climate.
