The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector's Office has introduced a new Compliance Transparency Page. This public repository is designed to provide residents with easy access to records and information generated during the review of business activities related to Cuba within the county.
Tax Collector Dariel Fernández made the announcement, emphasizing that the portal aims to enhance transparency and ensure adherence to state and local laws, especially in matters involving national security concerns.
"As the Tax Collector of Miami-Dade County, it's my duty to ensure that every business operating in our county complies with state and local laws, particularly when national security issues are at stake," Fernández stated in a post on the social media platform X.
Executive Order and Federal Actions
Fernández highlighted that the creation of the repository is in response to President Donald J. Trump's Executive Order addressing threats posed by the Cuban communist and socialist regime, as well as recent federal actions.
"Following that executive order and subsequent federal actions, our office has spent months reviewing business activities under our legal authority," he explained.
"Transparency and adherence to the law are crucial, and this new portal ensures the public has access to accurate information," he added.
Past Allegations and License Revocations
Back in January, Fernández reported alleged abuses in business licenses related to operations towards Cuba. He announced plans to notify President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the national security risks he claimed pose a threat to the South Florida community.
Fernández disclosed that on January 13, 2026, his office received two letters from the U.S. Department of Commerce confirming the revocation of federal licenses used for exports to Cuba.
Compliance Notices to County Businesses
As part of this review, Fernández announced the issuance of 50 compliance notices to businesses whose activities might be connected to commercial operations with the Cuban regime.
In an official statement, he explained that these actions are part of a process to ensure all businesses meet the necessary legal requirements to obtain or maintain a Local Business Tax Receipt.
The notices demand key information to determine business eligibility, including confirmation of having the appropriate federal authorization for their operations, in accordance with state law and county code.
Commitment to Transparency and Oversight
With the launch of this new public repository, the Tax Collector's Office seeks to strengthen oversight, provide greater clarity to residents, and reaffirm its commitment to legal compliance amidst increasing scrutiny of trade relations linked to the Cuban regime.
