The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced the arrest of two Cuban nationals, both with extensive criminal backgrounds.

These arrests come amid the intensification of immigration policies initiated by President Donald Trump’s administration in January 2025.

In statements shared on social media, the federal agency revealed the apprehension of Julio César Díaz-Muro and César Drago-Méndez, individuals deemed threats to public safety with final deportation orders issued in 2021.

Criminal Activities of Julio César Díaz-Muro

Julio César Díaz-Muro, a Cuban national, has a history involving murder, intentional homicide, armed robbery, and cocaine trafficking.

ICE noted that his capture was executed by the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) office in Miami, emphasizing his removal from Florida streets was crucial for community safety.

"He is not someone you would want as your neighbor," the agency stated, highlighting the danger posed by Díaz-Muro.

César Drago-Méndez Faces Multiple Homicide Charges

César Drago-Méndez, also described as a criminal illegal immigrant from Cuba, is facing two homicide charges in Florida.

His criminal record includes aggravated assault with a weapon, possession and receipt of stolen goods, numerous drug-related offenses, and several serious weapons convictions.

Drago-Méndez remains in ICE custody in Miami, awaiting final deportation proceedings, according to the agency.

Backdrop of Increased Raids and Deportations

The arrests occurred during a period of heightened enforcement against illegal immigration, driven by the Trump administration. ICE, alongside other federal agencies under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in collaboration with state and local authorities, has ramped up raids and detentions of undocumented individuals, especially those with criminal convictions or pending charges.

The DHS has reiterated that approximately 70% of those arrested are convicted criminals or face legal proceedings. However, human rights organizations and community leaders have criticized the policy, noting that among the detained are also workers with no criminal history, residing in the country for years, paying taxes, and supporting their families.

Official statistics show that nearly three million illegal immigrants left the United States in 2025. Of these, approximately 2.2 million left through "self-deportation," and over 675,000 were expelled directly by immigration authorities.
