From Havana to Paris: Cuban Model Becomes Chanel's Latest Muse

Tuesday, February 3, 2026 by Daniel Colon

The Cuban model Jhayna Duarte has taken the fashion world by storm as the new face of Chanel's Spring-Summer 2026 campaign. This stunning production merges art and elegance through neutral tones, sculptures, and studio lighting, marking a significant milestone for Cuban talent in international haute couture.

Jhayna, who honed her skills in Havana, stands as one of the most distinguished models of her generation. Her artistic inclinations were apparent from a young age, as she would strut around the house in heels, sing, and dance, turning each day into a small family performance. At 14, she began her training at the renowned school Entre Poses, situated in La Maison, where she studied modeling, acting, dance, and singing.

Her career progressed swiftly, enabling her to collaborate with designers from Cuba and beyond, and to grace the runways of prominent events like Fashion Weeks and Arte y Moda, the island's leading industry platforms.

In a conversation with CubaPLUS Latinos, Jhayna —who is also pursuing a degree in Sociology at the University of Havana— shared that modeling has taught her the value of perseverance: “I’ve been in this profession for almost a decade, and each project has contributed to my growth. If you love what you do, you must give your best. Life works the same way: give it your all until you're empty.”

She fondly recalled a particularly challenging moment at a show held at the National Capitol Building for Havana's 500th anniversary: “Descending over fifty steps in high heels and a long gown was an unforgettable challenge.”

Beyond the runway, Jhayna is deeply connected to editorial photography, which she views as an art form: “It’s about expression, emotion, and attitude; it’s not just posing, but communicating.”

Her artistic pursuits extend into other fields as well. She is a trained actress from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), fluent in English, and studying French at the Alliance Française of Cuba. As an independent creator, she drives the film and theater project El Sueño, starring in the short film Los Mismos Zapatos.

Looking ahead, Jhayna has clear ambitions: “I want to keep growing, cherish experiences, and take pride in what I’ve built. Personal and professional satisfaction is my ultimate goal.”

With her natural elegance and determination, Jhayna Duarte exemplifies how the new generation of Cuban models is poised to conquer the world's top runways.
