The 39-year-old political scientist significantly surpassed the 40% threshold required for a first-round victory, defeating Álvaro Ramos of the National Liberation Party, who garnered 32.12%.
The Sovereign People Party also won 30 of the 57 seats in Congress, necessitating Fernández to build alliances for any reforms needing a qualified majority. Voter turnout was reported at 69.5%.

Her opponent, Ramos, conceded defeat and stated his intention to provide a “constructive opposition.”
Fernández, who previously served as Minister of the Presidency and Planning, is set to take office on May 8. She has vowed to tackle issues such as insecurity and drug trafficking through institutional reforms and infrastructure modernization.
