President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to cities led by Democrats, stating that the federal government will not step in to manage protests or unrest unless local authorities formally request assistance.
In a message shared on his Truth Social account, Trump announced that he instructed Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem not to deploy federal forces in what he referred to as "poorly managed Democrat cities" without a direct plea for help.
"Under no circumstances will we engage in the protests or disturbances in these cities unless we are asked to help," the President expressed, emphasizing that local leaders must take responsibility for protecting both their properties and any federal buildings within their jurisdiction.
Trump clarified that federal agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Border Patrol, will be "very firm" in safeguarding U.S. government assets.
"We will not allow attacks or damage to our buildings, courthouses, or properties under federal protection," he added.
The President assured that any aggression against federal agents would lead to "equal or greater consequences" for the perpetrators.
He also noted that federal intervention would only occur if governors or mayors request assistance using the word "please."
Referring to recent unrest in Eugene, Oregon, where demonstrators stormed a federal building causing material damage, Trump criticized the local police for not taking action to stop them. He warned that his administration "will not allow this to happen again."
Trump reiterated that his election was based on a clear mandate for "border control, national security, law and order," stating that America "will not tolerate further chaos or violence fueled by local incompetence."
"America wants law and order, and that is what it is getting," the President concluded in his statement, signed off as the President of the United States.
Understanding Trump's Stance on Federal Intervention
