The tragic news has transcended borders, deeply impacting two Cuban families. From the island, amidst tearful phone calls and broken words, loved ones remain in shock following the murder of a Cuban woman in Las Vegas by her partner, who was also of Cuban descent.

"We are all very sad and devastated. She was a beloved person, everyone loved her," expressed Llien Miranda, a close friend of the victim, in a statement to Telemundo Las Vegas from Cuba.

The tragedy unfolded on January 23rd when, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, José Galán Prevald, aged 46, fatally stabbed his girlfriend.

The victim, identified by friends as Yaimira, was a Cuban healthcare worker. Relatives and acquaintances noted that she had graduated in pediatrics and was highly respected by those who worked with her at the clinic in Cuba. Her untimely death has not only left a profound void among her loved ones but also within the community that knew her.

Repercussions of a Heartbreaking Event

From the other side of this tragedy, a woman identifying as the accused's cousin also spoke from Cuba. Her words conveyed the anguish of a family struggling to comprehend the horrific event.

"From here in Cuba, I can only say that we feel an immeasurable pain. I know both families are suffering because there's a deceased person involved, and no one expected this from him," she expressed.

She further encapsulated the shared sentiment with a phrase heavy with emotion: "With pain, we are all suffering from his failure."

Legal Proceedings and Emotional Aftermath

According to family members, José Galán Prevald is a licensed optometrist who had emigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities. He now faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon.

During his court appearance, a judge denied bail, and the case was moved to Department Eight of the Las Vegas Justice Court.

As the legal proceedings continue, grief, disbelief, and the sense of a tragically lost life linger both in Cuba and abroad. This narrative, beyond courtrooms and legal charges, leaves families shattered and a community scarred by sorrow.
