A Florida woman has been taken into custody and extradited to North Carolina, charged with deceiving elderly and isolated individuals through an elaborate romance scam. Over a span of six years, this scheme allegedly allowed her to amass approximately $3 million.

According to the Miami Herald, the Craven County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Christina Jane Julian, 56, a resident of Naples, Florida.

Julian faces charges of "obtaining property by false pretenses over $100,000" and "exploitation of the elderly." Her bail has been set at $350,000.

Investigators revealed that one victim from North Carolina sent as much as $139,900, under the impression that the money was aiding a supposed man’s return to the United States.

Authorities suspect that Julian exploited social media platforms and online dating sites to connect with her victims.

The Federal Trade Commission warns that romance scams often involve building trust with victims before asking for money for alleged medical emergencies, travel expenses, or visa fees.

Officials advise against sending money or gifts to individuals known only through the Internet.
