Cuban singer Abel Díaz Rodríguez, widely recognized as "El Chulo", has been branded by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a dangerous criminal and an active member of the notorious Latin Kings gang following his recent arrest in the United States.

In a statement provided to Telemundo, ICE revealed that Rodríguez was convicted in 2017 for attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. These crimes were committed after he legally entered the country in 2011 using a Fiancé visa.

The statement emphasized that Díaz Rodríguez "used his chance at the American dream to instill fear in others." Following his conviction, an immigration judge issued a final deportation order on October 1, 2018.

According to the statement, ICE agents apprehended "El Chulo" on January 22, 2026. He remains in custody while his deportation process from the United States is finalized.

The federal agency described the detainee as an "illegal and dangerous criminal" and reiterated that he is a "known active member of the Latin Kings," one of the most expansive and violent criminal organizations in the nation.

ICE informed Univisión that the singer's immigration future is "uncertain" and that he could be deported not only to Cuba but also to a third country, contingent upon the final case assessment.

Additionally, ICE highlighted Abel Díaz Rodríguez as "an illegal immigrant with a criminal record from Cuba and a known active member of the Latin Kings," categorizing him as a "high public risk" individual.

The singer's attorney, José Guerrero, recently expressed skepticism regarding the likelihood of the Cuban reggaeton artist El Chulo being released by ICE, given the existing final deportation order against him.
