José Daniel Ferrer, a prominent Cuban opposition leader, has issued a renewed call to action aimed at both citizens and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and Ministry of the Interior (MININT), emphasizing that "if Cuba doesn't change, it will sink."

"This message is also for members of the FAR and MININT who understand that without change, Cuba is doomed," added the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU).
Exiled by the Cuban regime in October 2025, Ferrer has heightened his outreach efforts recently, directly appealing to both military personnel and the general populace to drive political change on the island. His relocation to Miami marked the end of an extended period of political persecution in Cuba and the beginning of a new phase of activism from abroad.
On January 8, Ferrer released an open letter addressed to FAR and MININT leadership and troops, urging them to "facilitate political change in Cuba and stop being tools of repression." He described the nation as experiencing "the worst crisis in seven decades," plagued by economic, energy, social, and food challenges, along with a massive citizen exodus.
A week later, Ferrer reached out again to Cubans, urging them to seize "the current moment" to liberate Cuba. He encouraged breaking ties with organizations that are part of the regime's control apparatus, such as the CDR, FMC, CTC, and FEU, and to join "pro-democracy movements" that advocate for freedom and democracy.
In this message, Ferrer also appealed to the military, reminding them that "they, too, are affected by the current situation, and change would benefit their families."
