In the early hours of Monday, a devastating car accident on the National Highway near Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, claimed the lives of two individuals, one of whom was a 13-year-old girl. This incident adds to the growing number of traffic accidents casting a shadow of grief over January.

Initial reports on social media suggest that the collision, involving a car and a bus allegedly from the National Bus Company, resulted in two fatalities and at least two individuals suffering severe injuries.

She was in the vehicle with her parents, Dany Gómez and Yasmery Cepero, who were urgently taken to Faustino Pérez Hospital in Matanzas and remain in critical condition, according to activist Irma Broek. Family members confirmed the young girl's passing on Facebook. "My cousin, who was 13 years old, was in the car where she lost her life. Her parents, my cousin and her husband, are in critical condition at the hospital in Matanzas. Rest in peace, my beautiful girl; you have left us heartbroken," expressed Yuset Alfonso.

The crash also claimed the life of the car's driver, identified as Freddy Wong, who was also from the capital of Villa Clara, as reported by acquaintances and confirmed by the social media page La Tijera.

The accident occurred around 3 a.m. as the vehicle was departing Jagüey Grande en route to Havana. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, and there has been no official statement regarding the tragic event or the total number of victims involved.

Witnesses described a significant presence of ambulances responding to the scene, highlighting the severity of the incident that has left two Cuban families in mourning.
