Activists are urgently trying to find the family of Gisela, a Cuban woman believed to be from Santiago de Cuba, who is enduring severe hardship in Rivas, Nicaragua.
Gisela is surviving without proper medical care or institutional support, as reported by activist Magdiel Jorge Castro.
"The woman initially arrived in Managua, where she fell victim to a theft that left her penniless. She later moved to Rivas, where her circumstances worsened: she suffered a miscarriage, was struck by a vehicle, and now has severely restricted mobility. She currently moves by dragging herself along the sidewalks near the local hospital," Castro explained.
Gisela exhibits symptoms of mental distress, but when she is able to communicate, she identifies herself as Gisela and claims to be from Santiago de Cuba, according to local residents.
After this, she often becomes withdrawn and stops speaking, witnesses noted.
"Compassionate individuals have reached out to both the Cuban Embassy in Nicaragua and local health and social services, but so far, no effective response has been provided to ensure her protection or care," the activist stated.
Gisela's survival depends on charity, and her physical and emotional state is deteriorating.
"The aim of sharing her story is to locate any relatives or acquaintances in Cuba who might recognize her and facilitate humanitarian assistance or reunification. Gisela currently roams the street leading to the hospital in Rivas, presenting one of the most heart-wrenching images of recent Cuban migration," the report concluded.
