Armed Robbery of Two Brothers Sparks Outrage in Villa Clara's Santo Domingo

Sunday, January 18, 2026 by Ethan Navarro

A recent armed robbery in Santo Domingo, a municipality in Villa Clara province, has stirred concern among locals due to its violent nature.

The incident, as recounted by the daughter of one of the victims, took place precisely on Wednesday, January 14, around 10:00 pm, outside the premises of the Casa de los Combatientes.

Contrary to initial reports spread on social media, the crime did not involve a woman nor the theft of a vehicle loaded with suitcases. The victims were two men: her father and uncle.

The young woman shared in a video—posted on Facebook by "Nio Reporting a Crime"—that the men were returning from Santa Clara in a rental car her uncle had obtained due to a pressing family matter involving a sick relative in the city.

Upon arriving at her grandmother's house, which is located opposite the Casa de los Combatientes, they were ambushed by two men who had been tailing them in another vehicle.

The assailants exited their car, brandished a gun, and fired a shot into the air to deter intervention, as there were people present in the house and surrounding area at the time.

During the robbery, the perpetrators stole a gold bracelet from the young woman's uncle and made off with the car containing all his personal documents. Among the stolen papers were a passport, residency permits, a driver's license, and other important items kept in a folder.

The young woman emphasized that, as of now, the robbers have not been apprehended, nor have the documents been found.

She also criticized the spread of inaccurate information about the incident, which has led to confusion and undermined the credibility of news sources claiming to report the facts.

In her statement, she urged administrators of social media news profiles to verify details thoroughly before posting and to avoid disseminating unconfirmed accounts.

Meanwhile, Nio Reporting a Crime has requested community members with any information that could help identify or locate the culprits to share it privately with the platform, emphasizing that public cooperation could be crucial in advancing the investigation.

So far, there has been no official announcement regarding the arrest of suspects or the recovery of the stolen vehicle and documents.
