Diosdado Cabello Accuses U.S. of Fabricating Lies About Venezuela, Denies Any Repression

Wednesday, January 14, 2026 by Joseph Morales

Chavista leader Diosdado Cabello has dismissed allegations of repression and insecurity in Venezuela, accusing the United States of "spreading falsehoods and orchestrating an international smear campaign" against the nation.

In a broadcast on the state-run TeleSur, Cabello maintained that there is "no persecution or groups setting up roadblocks" in the country, urging "calm and reason" in response to what he described as Washington's attempt to disrupt Venezuela's internal stability.

"Let's call for calmness, let's call for peace, while the United States continues to claim that groups in Venezuela are setting up roadblocks. There are no such groups here doing that," he asserted.

Cabello drew a comparison between the security situations in Venezuela and the United States, remarking that "the U.S. would wish to go five days without a murder on its streets."

He argued that the recent reports of violence or repression are part of "a massive campaign" against the Bolivarian revolution.

Currently, Cabello serves as the Coordinator of the Political Council of the PSUV (January 2026), acting as a spokesperson, operator, and political leader for the faction loyal to Nicolás Maduro, under the interim government of Delcy Rodríguez.

Despite not holding a formal position in the executive branch, he wields significant influence over regional commands and the party's structure.

Cabello also defended the Venezuelan Constitution, asserting that "those who attacked it now realize that when they launched that bomb, they were targeting themselves."

His remarks come amid heightened political tension following the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces on January 3rd and Delcy Rodríguez's assumption of the interim presidency under international oversight.

Meanwhile, the administration of Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio continue to apply diplomatic pressure on Caracas to ensure a democratic transition.
