In a heart-wrenching accident that unfolded on Monday afternoon in Moa, Holguín, six individuals lost their lives and five others sustained injuries, as confirmed by official sources.

The massive collision involved a pickup truck and a passenger-carrying tricycle, occurring around 4:00 p.m. on the highway leading from Moa to Baracoa (Guantánamo), specifically near the Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel Enterprise, reported journalist Yulieska Hernández García.

The pickup truck collided with the tricycle, resulting in the immediate death of five individuals on the scene. A sixth person succumbed to injuries at Dr. Guillermo Luis Fernández Hernández-Baquero Hospital; five others were injured, including both drivers, according to the report.

Those who tragically perished in the accident are:

  • Andys William Mendoza Ferrer, aged 41, from Aeropuerto neighborhood, Frank País.
  • Enoelio Borges Reyes, 50, a native of Moa and resident of Cayo Grande de Yamanigüey.
  • Maria Carla Noguera Despaigne, 19, from Lenin Avenue, 26 de Junio neighborhood.
  • Emmanuel Rodríguez Igarza, 23, from Punta Gorda Arriba.
  • Eloína Reyes González, 69, also from Punta Gorda Arriba.
  • Liolvis Lofforte Alpajón, 33, of Cayo Grande de Yamanigüey.

Among the five injured, one is in critical condition; three are in serious but stable conditions, and one sustained non-critical injuries.

The injured include Sandro Medina Oliveros, 52, from Miraflores, reported as serious but stable; Yanet Rodríguez Reyes, 49, from Punta Gorda Arriba, with a head injury but stable; Omar Breff Blanco, 58, the tricycle driver from Viales 8, Armando Mestre, in critical condition; Liset Suárez Lovaina, 29, from Quemado del Negro, with non-serious injuries but stable; and Eroeldis Borges Alpajón, 23, from Cayo Grande de Yamanigüey, serious but stable.

Hernández noted that upon notification of the accident, rescue and salvage teams from the nickel industries and local SIUM personnel promptly arrived to aid the injured and manage the deceased. Authorities from the municipality and the Ministry of the Interior were also present.

At the hospital, emergency protocols for handling mass casualty incidents were activated, ensuring that the injured received immediate and thorough care in the Trauma and Special Care units of the Emergency Department, the report detailed.

Initial reports revealed that the tricycle was transporting passengers from the Armando Mestre community in Moa when it was struck by the pickup truck, which belonged to Womy Equipment Rental. This Dutch company specializes in the rental, sale, and maintenance of heavy equipment, vehicles (cars, trucks, buses), and machinery, according to online information.
