A tragic traffic accident unfolded in Camagüey province on Wednesday, leaving two people dead and at least 38 others injured, including one in critical condition and three others in serious condition.

The crash occurred on the Central Highway at kilometer 595, in a notorious spot known as the Ignacio Curve in the Jimaguayú municipality.

A bus traveling from Holguín, carrying workers from the Mariel Development Zone, overturned at this location, causing the catastrophic accident. This was reported on social media by communicator Miozotis Fabel and confirmed by medical sources in the area.

Photos from the scene depict the challenging rescue operations at this perilous stretch of road.

The Accident Scene and Initial Emergency Response

Initial reports cited 23 people injured, but this figure was later updated to 38 as more information became available.

In the aftermath, 12 of the injured were treated at the Sibanicú Polyclinic, while another 11 were transferred directly to the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial University Hospital in the main city, where emergency medical care was centralized.

The Ministry of the Interior (MININT), medical staff, and authorities from both Jimaguayú municipality and Camagüey province quickly arrived at the scene to manage rescue and aid efforts for the victims.

Condition of the Injured: Critical Cases

Dr. Rodolfo Domínguez Rosabal, director of the Provincial Hospital, confirmed that 31 injured individuals were received at the facility and provided updates on the conditions of the most severely affected.

By 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dr. Domínguez Rosabal reported: "There is one patient in critical condition and three others in serious condition; three of the injured required surgical intervention due to orthopedic injuries."

One of the most complex surgeries involved the amputation of an upper limb due to the extent of the injuries sustained.

"We had to perform an amputation; the other cases involve open fractures being surgically addressed," the source noted.

Dr. Domínguez Rosabal also mentioned that all patients had been evaluated, with some being observed in minimal care units for 24 hours before determining further treatment steps.

Local leaders, including the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Camagüey, Walter Simón Noris, and Governor Jorge Enrique Sutil, were present both at the accident site and in medical facilities.

As of the closure of this report, the identities of the two deceased and the injured have not been disclosed.

The cause of the accident remains officially unreported; however, the Ignacio Curve, where the accident involving a large vehicle like an interprovincial bus occurred, is likely under scrutiny by the authorities.
