Posters Denouncing Díaz-Canel Emerge on Guanabacoa Homes

Saturday, December 27, 2025 by Sofia Valdez

Posters displaying messages like “Down with Díaz-Canel, murderer” and “Freedom for Cuba” surfaced on the exterior walls of homes in the Havana district of Guanabacoa this Friday, according to images shared on social media platforms.

The graffiti was captured in a short video posted on Facebook by José Díaz Silva, showcasing slogans boldly painted on the walls of houses in areas such as San Antonio and near Versailles, close to the Guanabacoa plaza.

Based on the circulating account, these messages appeared on the morning of Friday, December 26, and contain explicit criticisms aimed at President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Cuban political regime, including calls like “Save Cuba.”

As of now, there has been no official statement regarding who is responsible for these posters or any actions taken by the authorities concerning these incidents.

It is also unclear whether the graffiti has been removed since its appearance.

The spread of such messages in public spaces is occurring amid a backdrop of growing social discontent fueled by economic hardship, prolonged power outages, and worsening living conditions. These factors have sparked visible and symbolic protests across various parts of the country.

In August, a sign featuring the president's image at the entrance of Perico, Matanzas was vandalized after more than 27 consecutive hours without power.

That same month, rising social unrest on the island was again evident with anti-government posters in public spaces in Santiago de Cuba, particularly in the bustling Abel Santamaría neighborhood.
