Dominican YouTuber Dany Pérez, known as Destino Tolk, recently had a conversation with Cuban host Frank Abel Gómez-Bernal, who is currently held in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center as he awaits a decision on his immigration status.
"I will always be there to help him," Destino expressed with emotion after speaking with his friend. The conversation took place just days before Christmas, a particularly emotional time for both of them.
"Being in a detention facility during a time like this, so close to Christmas, which is a family-oriented holiday, is not easy. I spoke with him to give him strength and courage because hope is the last thing you lose. It's tough to talk to someone you care about and know they're facing such an uncertain and complex future," the content creator shared on his YouTube channel.
Destino recalled that just a year ago, in the run-up to the holiday season, they had filmed a show where Frank Abel reminisced about festive celebrations in Cuba with nostalgia.
However, Destino is disheartened that recently some users have been circulating clips from that video "to add fuel to the fire and worsen his case," referring to the criticism and rumors circulating on social media about the potential deportation of the popular Cuban presenter.
The influencer described Frank Abel as "a sensitive, calm individual who has faced many challenges since arriving in this country," noting that the emotional strain has taken a toll on his stability.
"I am working on his case with an attorney, but I can't disclose details as we are in the midst of the process," Destino clarified, reiterating his unwavering support for the Cuban: "I will always be here. Frank Abel can count on having a friend without ulterior motives."
As of now, there is no information on whether the host could be deported back to Cuba, but those close to him remain hopeful that he can stay in the United States and resolve his legal situation.
