During the grueling days of mandatory military service in Cuba, a time when many young people feel their aspirations are put on hold, Kend Guevara clung tightly to a clear vision: to dance and succeed in doing what he loved. Amidst the exhaustion, harsh conditions, and skepticism from others, he repeated a promise to himself that few took seriously.
"Nobody believed me when I said in the military: 'When I get out of this, I'm leaving the country, and I'm going to succeed doing what I love,'" he would remind himself repeatedly.
Today, far from Cuba and building a flourishing career in Nicaragua, Kend is proving that his vow was far from a fantasy. As a dance instructor and Zumba coach, he has carved out a place for himself on stages, at events, and in classes where movement, energy, and discipline are infused with his Cuban identity.
"Here I am, raising the flag of my island high," he asserts with pride, aware that each performance and class tells a story of perseverance, sacrifice, and resilience.
Kend's impact goes beyond dance; he educates, inspires, and transforms. His work is dedicated to helping others improve coordination, unlock their physical potential, and connect with music through confidence and passion. Additionally, he offers personalized and online classes, extending his reach beyond physical borders.
From the young man who silently dreamed during military service to the artist who now thrives doing what he loves, Kend Guevara's story is a testament to how talent, when paired with determination, can forge new paths even far from home.
