This Tuesday, Cuban authorities took Dr. Lilian Borroto López into custody in Matanzas as she protested the arrest of her mother, renowned intellectual and activist Alina Bárbara López Hernández.
Alongside Lilian and Alina, writer Jorge Fernández Era was also apprehended.
In a subsequent update, Cecilia Borroto reported that all three remain detained. She revealed that Lilian and Jorge were transported in an unmarked vehicle to the Playa Police Unit in Matanzas, entering through a concealed access point.
Cecilia Borroto further condemned the ongoing harassment directed at her family. She recalled that over two years ago, she and her sister filed a complaint with the Matanzas Provincial Prosecutor's Office against State Security for intimidation, which has yet to receive a response.
The complainant voiced her concerns regarding her sister's well-being, especially as she is recovering from chikungunya. She fears a recurrence of previous incidents involving violence and persecution, including surveillance, interrogations of close associates, and intimidation in public spaces.
The family is demanding the immediate release of the three detained individuals and an end to the harassment tactics: "Leave my family alone… we are not alone, and we will not be broken," declared Cecilia Borroto.
