Jardiel Returns to Cuba to a "Christmas Tree" Welcome: "It Smells Awful"

Cuban comedian Jardiel González made his way back to Havana on Tuesday, only to be met with a bleak scene that he humorously described as being overtaken by "Christmas trees." This was his tongue-in-cheek reference to the piles of garbage scattered across his hometown of Marianao.

"This isn't the same old game; it's on a whole new level... Look at these plastic bags hanging full of trash, that's a Christmas tree made from recycled materials, designed with garbage," Jardiel quipped in a video shared on Facebook.

With his characteristic wit, he highlighted how the trash has become a fixture at every corner, accompanied by strong odors and filth, a testament to the urban neglect and lack of cleanliness.

"You can smell the stench, and it makes you feel younger because we're going backward, not forward," he remarked as he walked through his native Marianao.

The video starkly contrasts the comedian's creative humor with the harsh reality of Havana's streets, where garbage accumulation and sanitation issues have become a part of daily life for residents.

Jardiel even pointed out details like the glistening cans, potholes, and streams of dirty water interacting with the makeshift "Christmas trees," crafting a scene ripe for criticism.

The comedian also shared another video of his return to Cuba from Miami, where he had spent several months.

During his time there, he enjoyed family moments with his ex-partner, fellow comedian Cuqui La Mora, and their daughter, Lil González. The scenes of familial respect and camaraderie touched his followers deeply.

In a TikTok video, the harmony between the three was evident, reinforcing their mature and affectionate relationship despite the separation.
