President Donald Trump is encountering growing dissatisfaction among the most devoted factions of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, who accuse him of straying from the priorities that initially propelled him to the White House.
As reported by The Washington Post, several conservative leaders have cautioned the President that some of his base feels “disconnected” and “disenchanted” with his administration.
During a lunch at the White House, conservative pollster Mark Mitchell from Rasmussen Reports informed Trump that his administration seems to be more focused on foreign policy and corporate elites rather than the everyday issues affecting Americans.
“You said: ‘Fight, fight, fight,’ but now you're battling Marjorie Taylor Greene instead of advocating for the citizens,” Mitchell allegedly told him.
Internal polling from Rasmussen indicates that many supporters believe Trump has not fulfilled his promise to "drain the swamp" in Washington, a metaphor for the political corruption he vowed to eliminate.
Mitchell urged Trump to refocus his presidency on “pragmatic economic populism” amid growing discontent over living costs, healthcare prices, and the lack of visible achievements.
Additionally, some segments of the MAGA movement accuse Trump of failing to disclose and release files related to the deceased sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein, a matter many followers view as symbolic of the fight against corruption and cover-ups by political and financial elites.
For these groups, the White House's silence on the issue signals that Trump has aligned himself with the interests he once claimed to oppose.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, once one of Trump's staunchest allies, has become one of his main critics. After being undermined by the President, she resigned her seat in Congress. Greene warned that “the base is disillusioned, they know what he promised to do, and they know he isn’t delivering.”
In response, Trump plans to resume his near-weekly rallies to highlight his administration's achievements and attempt to reconnect with his supporters. However, during a recent appearance in Pennsylvania, the President again downplayed concerns over inflation and the rising cost of living, stating, “I cannot say that affordability is a hoax, because prices were indeed too high.”
Although Trump retains strong backing among Republicans, recent polls show his approval has dropped below 90% within the party and hovers around 41% nationally. Conservative analysts fear that internal discontent and economic strain could endanger the Republican majority in the upcoming November midterm elections.
