The U.S. House of Representatives dismissed another attempt to impeach President Donald Trump on Friday, rejecting a resolution pushed by Democratic Congressman Al Green. The initiative failed to gain majority support, even within his own party.

The vote concluded with 237 lawmakers in favor of shelving the resolution, 140 against, and 47 Democrats choosing to vote "present," highlighting the lack of internal consensus for advancing an impeachment process, according to the Associated Press.

This marks the second setback this year for Green, who previously attempted a similar measure in June without success.

Prior to the vote, Democratic leadership in the House refrained from openly supporting the initiative. In a statement, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and his aides emphasized that impeachment is a "sacred" constitutional tool requiring thorough investigations, which they argued have not been conducted. Despite this, they did not urge a vote against it and opted for abstention instead.

Green justified his proposal by claiming that Trump has committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" during his second term. The recent resolution accused Trump of threatening Democratic lawmakers following the release of a video on social media directed at members of the Armed Forces.

In June, Green had initiated another impeachment effort alleging Trump bypassed Congress after attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.

From the Republican side, the initiative was dismissed as an unfounded political attack. The official X account of the Republican Party in the House celebrated the defeat of the procedure, accusing Democrats of resorting to "desperate" tactics to hinder the presidential agenda.

Trump faced impeachment twice during his first term, in 2019 and 2021, and was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions. Meanwhile, Republicans have warned that the issue might resurface if Democrats regain the legislative majority, although Democratic leaders themselves insist that there is no immediate plan to push for a new process without prior investigation.
