Amid increasing international isolation and a new wave of sanctions imposed by Washington, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro delivered another one of his most aggressive and outlandish speeches on Thursday, claiming that Venezuela is prepared for a military confrontation with the United States.
"In these times, we must be like warriors, vigilant and ready. We are working, producing, constructing, and always prepared to knock out the North American empire if necessary, from the land of Bolívar," Maduro declared during a televised event with members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
This statement comes amidst escalating tensions with the United States following the Trump Administration's recent sanctions against the so-called "narco nephews" of his wife, Cilia Flores, and several oil companies accused of financing the Chavista regime. Maduro once again resorted to anti-imperialist rhetoric and the defense of sovereignty, while the country grapples with one of its most severe economic and humanitarian crises. He called on Venezuelans for "absolute unity" against what he described as "a total war from the empire and its puppets."
"No sanction or blockade can stop the people of Bolívar. If the empire touches us, they will know that Venezuela does not surrender," Maduro declared defiantly.
The Chavista regime has intensified joint military exercises with Russia, Iran, and China in recent months, presenting them as a display of strength against the United States.
The Venezuelan leader also instructed the military high command to maintain "maximum alert" in response to the U.S. naval deployment off the Venezuelan coast, part of Operation Southern Lance, which Washington claims is aimed at combating drug trafficking and oil smuggling.
