U.S. Border Patrol Apprehends Cuban Woman Convicted of Manslaughter Who Dodged Deportation

A Cuban national, previously imprisoned in the United States for involuntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon, has been apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) in Broward County, located in South Florida. She had previously evaded a deportation order.

Jeffrey Dinise, the Chief of the Miami Sector USBP, announced via his official account on X this Tuesday that agents from the Dania Beach station detained the woman. However, he did not specify the exact date or circumstances of the arrest.

The official labeled the detainee as the "Offender of the Week," providing a photo and a brief profile highlighting her "violent past," which included the manslaughter conviction. Her name, however, was not disclosed.

Dinise clarified that the Cuban illegal immigrant had been issued a deportation order after serving 15 years in a Florida state prison, but she did not leave the U.S.

"The actions of our agents to enforce the law ensure the safety of our communities by removing dangerous criminals from our streets," the officer emphasized.

The arrest of the Cuban national is part of a vigorous crackdown led by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and carried out by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with other agencies. This effort has resulted in the detention of thousands of foreigners with criminal backgrounds, including numerous Cubans, who violate legal requirements in the United States, such as deportation orders.

ICE has highlighted that these operations aim to locate and remove immigrants with serious criminal histories, with the objective of protecting communities and enforcing the nation's immigration laws.

Immigration authorities have ramped up efforts to identify migrants with outstanding deportation orders.

To strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws and enhance the capacity to transport deported individuals, the DHS signed a nearly $140 million contract this week to acquire six Boeing 737 aircraft for these operations.

All these measures are occurring in the context of an intensified crackdown on immigration policies under the Trump administration, which have reached unprecedented levels and are now targeting foreigners with legal status in the U.S., further heightening tension within immigrant communities.
