The plight of Adalberto Martínez Rubier, a Cuban from Pinar del Río, has been highlighted by the Conducta Dade project on social media. Adalberto is currently homeless in Orlando, Florida, lacking both family and documentation, following his recent discharge from the hospital after undergoing brain surgery.
"He was released from the hospital a few days ago after a very delicate brain operation where they discovered clots and a tumor. Since then, he has been living alone on the streets of Orlando, without family, documents, or anyone to care for him," Conducta Dade shared on their official profiles.
The group explained that Adalberto suffers from paralysis in one hand and foot, relies on a wheelchair, and is unable to care for himself. Though he practiced boxing for years, he is now in an extremely vulnerable situation.
In a video released by the project, Adalberto makes a heartfelt plea for help, expressing his distress: "Friend, I ask from the heart if you can help me, I can't move my foot or hand. I don't ask for money or wealth, just that someone helps me from the heart."
Alexis, the person assisting him, explained that the young man "has no family, no papers, and no way to return to Cuba," and called for support from any organization or individual who could provide shelter or medical care. "Folks, I kindly ask you to help us with this young man. He just got out of the hospital, has no family, no one. He can't walk or fend for himself. We are looking for an organization to take care of him," Alexis stated.
Conducta Dade concluded their message with a call for solidarity: "This video is made in hopes that his family, friends, or anyone who knows him can see it and offer support (...). No one should face something like this completely alone."
The case has also gained traction on TikTok, where Conducta Dade shared the same message with hashtags like #Orlando, #solidarity, and #Miami, prompting numerous supportive comments and suggestions to assist Adalberto.
Some users suggested organizing a collection or finding him accommodation, writing: "To my fellow Cubans fighting here in the USA, let's help, as he could be any one of us."
Others proposed facilitating his return to Cuba: "I think the best would be to arrange for his return to his family, if some organization could assist him."
Meanwhile, some considered that the most urgent need was to find him medical assistance in the United States: "For a person like him, there are assistance programs and centers with 24-hour care."
Adalberto's situation has sparked a wave of solidarity among Cubans both inside and outside the country. Conducta Dade keeps the contacts of the young man and his companion Alexis visible to directly channel any help that could improve his situation.
