Nearly two years have passed since Lali Paola Moliner Bosa vanished, and her family remains in the dark. There are no clues, no progress, and certainly no answers. What persists is the silence, a silence more painful than the uncertainty itself.
Beatriz Bosa Alfonso, Lali's grandmother who raised and cared for her since infancy, has once again spoken out against the institutional silence to remind everyone that the child is still missing and that, at least for the family, the search has never stopped.
"I was the one who slept with her, took her to daycare, was always by her side," she stated in an interview with the feminist platform Alas Tensas.
She now remembers Lali as a four-year-old, although she was just three when she disappeared on February 25, 2024, the last day she was seen with her mother, Teresa Moliner. Teresa was found dead the next day in Cojímar, showing signs of violence. Since then, the family has been caught in a cycle of police station visits, fruitless paperwork, and the bitter feeling that they are left without explanations.
Bosa Alfonso recounted accompanying Teresa and Lali to a building that Sunday. They left them for a brief moment to deliver a package. When they returned, both were gone. Two days later, they were informed of the discovery of Teresa's body. Of Lali, no trace has been found.
"From that point on, they would call us in every day, asking questions, investigating... but then everything faded away. Whenever I tried to see the minister, I was never received. They sent me to Cieneguillas de Abajo, where I was told they didn't handle the case," she shares, exhausted.
She has visited "five or six times," only to receive evasive responses, empty phrases, and no concrete information. "Even just a message saying, 'We're working on it, but haven't found anything.' But nothing. Complete silence," she laments.
Despite assurances that the case remains open, this offers little solace. She feels the burden of persistence falls solely on the family. "It seems unbelievable when they say they're on top of it, yet they don't call, don't write, don't communicate. It's frustrating."
Although Lali Paola's name has become known throughout Cuba, with thousands sharing her photo, the grandmother feels nothing has changed. "They say she's the most important child in Cuba now, but in the end, we're still in this agonizing wait."
Her plea is for disappearances not to be hidden, for thorough investigations, for connections to be made, and for institutions not to abandon families. "There are many missing people who aren't found, dead or alive. We find solace in supporting each other," she asserts, clinging to a hope that, though battered, remains alive.
