Severe Power Outages in Matanzas Leave Families with Barely Any Electricity Daily

Residents of Matanzas are grappling with a dire electricity crisis, receiving merely one to two hours of power each day, leaving them in unbearable heat and darkness for the remainder of the time.

Adrián Socorro Suárez, a Facebook user, shared his experience, highlighting that his electrical circuit in the city center has been suffering from outages lasting 24 to 30 consecutive hours for nearly a month.

"We're approaching a month now of enduring the misfortune of having just one or two hours of electricity following 24 to 30 continuous hours of blackout. This is unacceptable," he posted on his profile.

Living in central Matanzas, an area filled with businesses, banks, and clinics, Socorro expected a more balanced distribution of power cuts. Yet, his account paints a picture of growing frustration and desperation.

"They're in their offices, while we're stuck in darkness and heat," he added, criticizing the Cuban regime's indifference to the plight of thousands of families.

Socorro described the situation as "subjugation" and warned of the irreversible harm these blackouts inflict on national life, from economic losses and spoiled food to hospital disruptions, family stress, and educational setbacks.

"Daily blackouts sabotage both family and national economies," he lamented.

"Electricity is not a luxury; it's a basic necessity." Socorro demanded "real solutions, transparency, and respect," emphasizing that Cubans are not mere statistics but citizens deserving of a dignified life.

"We've been forced into a miserably undignified way of living. Electricity is essential for human dignity," he expressed.

The power outages, which the regime blames on fuel shortages and power plant failures, have become an unbearable routine for millions of Cubans. Social media reports indicate that Matanzas, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, and Holguín are among the hardest hit, with circuits receiving only one or two hours of power in a 24-hour period.

Despite the mounting discontent, neither government officials nor the Electric Union have provided a convincing explanation or a contingency plan to alleviate the crisis.

Socorro's post has gone viral among Cubans both on and off the island, capturing the widespread fatigue with a national electrical system managed by a regime failing to deliver basic services after more than six decades of absolute control.
