Guanabacoa Fire Was Intentional: Eyewitness Provides Insight into the Incident

Saturday, December 6, 2025 by Mia Dominguez

New information has emerged about the fire that ravaged a home in the La Hata neighborhood of Guanabacoa three days ago.

Content creator Yarelys Herrera Díaz (@yarelys_hd), who initially shared footage of the blaze, released a follow-up video clarifying that the fire was not accidental, contrary to initial assumptions.

"I made this second part of the video to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who showed concern after the first video of the fire," the Cuban influencer explained on her Instagram account, where the incident had gone viral.

After the initial post, numerous individuals offered assistance to those affected, but it later became clear that the story was not as initially believed.

"The truth is that it was Danielón himself who set his house on fire with a bottle of kerosene. He then went and turned himself in to the police," Yarelys revealed.

Impact on the Community

The blaze, which broke out following a power outage lasting over twelve hours in the area, destroyed Danielón's home and also damaged the adjacent house of a sick neighbor named Ernesto, who lives in dire conditions.

"The fire damaged his home and ruined some of his appliances and furniture. Ernesto, in an attempt to save his belongings, ended up injured," the influencer explained, noting that Ernesto is a medically fragile man, "a person with a tracheostomy, making it difficult for him to speak."

Herrera clarified that the images in her latest video were shared with Ernesto's consent. "If anyone wishes to support or help in any way they can, I'm here. I'd be glad to act as a bridge to ensure assistance reaches those in need," she stated.

Ongoing Consequences

The content creator also mentioned that since the fire, she has had no further updates on Danielón, who remains in police custody.

The fire has left two individuals facing vastly different challenges: one undergoing legal proceedings and the other striving to recover what little remained after the blaze, which nearly cost him his life.

Meanwhile, the residents of La Hata remain shocked by an event that began as a domestic tragedy and ended up exposing deeper social issues, characterized by poverty, power outages, and daily despair.
