A Cuban truck driver in the United States recently took to social media to issue a crucial warning to fellow migrants about the necessity of always carrying their residency documents. This comes after he was stopped on Interstate 75 by officers from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"Good morning, everyone. What just happened to me is very important. I was driving on I-75, and ICE has operations underway. They stopped me, and the first thing they asked for was this..." the trucker explained, displaying his residency card.
Thanks to having his residency card on hand, the driver reported he was able to continue his journey without being detained.
"Luckily, I always carry it with me just in case. This residency card is something you should never be without. Had I not had it today, they would have detained me. Nothing would have happened since I am a resident and have my papers, but it would have taken longer," he emphasized.
Advice for Fellow Migrants
The truck driver seized the opportunity to advise other Cubans and migrants living in the U.S.:
"I'm sharing this for informational purposes, so please spread the video to reach more people in the human community or any other community. If you have your residency and are a U.S. resident, always carry it with you."
While he did not specify the exact state where the stop took place, Interstate 75 runs through several states with significant Cuban populations, such as Florida and Georgia, where ICE regularly conducts immigration checks.
The trucker's account has resonated with many on social media, generating numerous reactions and gratitude from users who shared similar experiences with immigration authorities.
Key Questions About ICE and Residency Documents
Why is it important to carry residency documents in the U.S.?
Carrying residency documents is essential as it allows individuals to prove their legal status in the U.S., especially during stops by ICE or other law enforcement agencies. It helps avoid unnecessary detentions and legal complications.
What should migrants do if stopped by ICE?
Migrants should remain calm, comply with requests to show documentation, and be aware of their rights. Having residency documents ready can facilitate a smoother interaction with ICE agents.
