On Sunday, Deivy Alemán Oropesa, a Cuban national, reached out for assistance to return to the United States before his young daughter's heart surgery, which could take place as early as April 2026.
"We're hoping for a miracle that allows us to be together during this challenging time," Alemán expressed in a video shared by his wife.
Yisel Miguel Sarduy, an American citizen and Alemán's wife, posted the plea on Facebook, writing: "God willing, someone can help so my husband can return before our daughter's surgery."
In the video, Alemán shared his concerns from Cuba regarding his daughter's health condition.
"She had an appointment with her cardiologist a few days ago, and everything is stable. However, my wife was informed that next year they will start preparing her for her upcoming surgery. What worries us most is that I won't be there to support her, as I was during her previous operation. We're hoping for a miracle to expedite the process so we can be together," he said, evidently distressed.
Recently, the family received a glimmer of hope when the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requested additional evidence about Yisel's marriage, a critical step in the family reunification process.
Alemán, who had been living legally in the United States under immigration supervision, opted to leave the country voluntarily in September following a departure order from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
This decision forced him to part from his wife and their two-year-old daughter, who has already undergone two open-heart surgeries.
"Leaving my daughter is what hurts the most... she's facing another surgery, and that's my biggest worry," Alemán said before returning to Cuba, hoping for a swift reunion with his family.
According to his wife, their immigration case remains active, and they have legal support to request reconsideration on humanitarian grounds.
"We're making progress, and I have faith that something good will happen so he can be here before the operation," Yisel told Univision.
Meanwhile, the Cuban community in the United States has been actively running a GoFundMe campaign to assist Yisel with household expenses and her daughter's medical care.
With hope and faith, the family eagerly awaits a resolution that will allow Deivy to return in time to support his daughter during one of the most trying periods of their lives.
