The health of Cuban political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso has taken a severe turn for the worse after enduring a 35-day hunger strike. Activist Mailín Sánchez urgently called for international intervention on Wednesday, highlighting the prisoner's life-threatening condition.
"Starting at 2 a.m., he began experiencing dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea, severe symptoms, along with reduced urination; his kidneys are also being affected. His condition is deteriorating rapidly," Sánchez warned on Facebook from Montevideo, Uruguay.
"May God protect him. If anything happens to Yosvany, it will destroy this family. Such immense cruelty. He is a father suffering solely because he wants to be with his children and watch them grow," the activist added.
Political Repression and Health Neglect
Sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in the July 11, 2021 (11J) protests in Holguín, Rosell García Caso has been identified by human rights organizations as a victim of political retaliation.
His family claims he is not receiving medical care and remains in isolation.
According to the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH), Rosell García Caso is in a critical state, having abstained from solid food for over a month.
"Yosvany is placing his life in extreme danger to demand freedom and justice. His situation is dire, and the regime has yet to respond," stated a source from the organization.
International Appeals and Human Rights Violations
Activists report that political prisoners on hunger strikes are often subjected to isolation and denied medical care, violating international human rights standards.
Rosell's family has appealed for urgent intervention from international bodies such as the UN, the European Union, and Amnesty International, due to the authorities' refusal to transfer him to a hospital or allow specialized treatment.
A welder by trade and father of three, Yosvany Rosell was arrested for his peaceful participation in the 11J demonstrations.
According to Cubalex, his conviction is based on charges fabricated by the regime. Activists view him as a symbol of resistance against political oppression in Cuba.
