Recently, Cuban content creator Deivis Carballo Rodríguez (@diamond_blued) embarked on a trip back to Cuba to enjoy some well-deserved vacation time and reconnect with his family in his hometown of Caibarién, Villa Clara.

During his stay, he shared a heartfelt video with his followers, capturing a moment with his sister as they enjoyed one of Cuba's most cherished culinary staples: pan con minuta.

The preparation of minutas involves small fish that are cleaned, filleted while keeping the tail intact, then coated with egg and breadcrumbs before being fried in hot oil.

This simple yet flavorful dish is a hallmark of Cuban street food and a common snack in coastal areas. However, due to the rising costs of fish and other ingredients, it has become somewhat of a luxury these days.

In the video, Deivis nostalgically remarks, “I know there are minutas in the United States, but nothing compares to enjoying a pan con minuta in Cuba with my sister.”

The post sparked reactions among his followers, many of whom shared similar childhood memories from the island. Beyond the gastronomic gesture, the video highlights the deep emotional connection that many Cubans feel toward the flavors of their homeland, which evoke family, identity, and memory.
