On Monday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez emphasized the importance of "creativity and resilience" in navigating the country's economic challenges. His remarks, delivered at the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2025), underscored the government's commitment to overcoming adversity.

According to the Cuban Presidency's Facebook post, Díaz-Canel stated that the regime's objective extends beyond merely withstanding the United States embargo. The aim is to do so "through creativity, development, partnerships, science, and innovation."

The Cuban leader highlighted the need to "overcome the adversity and circumstances imposed by the blockade." He described the fair as a chance to "showcase Cuba's potential and embrace the capabilities of others," fostering joint projects.

"We must forge productive and business alliances that contribute to the country's development," Díaz-Canel urged, warning that failing to do so would jeopardize both the future and present. He encouraged resilience in the face of hurricanes and intensified blockades.

While addressing the press, Díaz-Canel acknowledged Cuba's financial struggles and existing debts to foreign businessmen. However, he expressed gratitude for those who remain engaged in Cuba "out of commitment and respect," asserting confidence that "better times are ahead."

Despite talks of "confidence," recent actions by the Cuban government paint a different picture. Just days ago, the regime froze foreign currency accounts belonging to all foreign companies and diplomatic missions on the island.

According to EFE, Díaz-Canel's government informed foreign enterprises that they would no longer be able to withdraw or transfer their deposited foreign currency abroad, effectively implementing a silent banking freeze on foreign investors.

Simultaneously, the regime is proposing the opening of "real" accounts that could be funded with foreign currency from overseas. These accounts would allow for international transfers and cash withdrawals, offering a potential lifeline for foreign businesses.
