Renowned Argentinian pastor Dante Gebel shared on his social media that a group of missionaries visited the Camalote area in Nuevitas, Camagüey. Their mission was to distribute beautiful toys to children and provide food and spiritual support to hundreds of families suffering from the severe health crisis and harsh living conditions currently plaguing the Cuban population.

"We continue to help in Cuba... bringing joy and toys to hundreds of children in the Camalote community," he posted on Facebook.

In a country where most Cuban children lack toys, recreational materials, and quality play spaces, the delivery of these toys holds a special significance. This scarcity is a direct result of economic decline, inadequate infrastructure, prolonged power outages, rising diseases, and the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, especially in the eastern part of the island. In this environment, initiatives like this one are seen as a beacon of hope amidst numerous hardships.

Addressing Health Challenges on the Ground

The town of Camalote is battling a growing outbreak of mosquito-borne illnesses, causing concern among residents. This situation further complicates the daily struggles of families already facing severe economic pressures, as reported by Luzvisión, a page closely monitoring this project.

Gebel explained that his team is actively working in the area, distributing food bags and providing direct assistance to affected households. "Right now, they are experiencing a major health crisis due to various mosquito-borne viruses. Today, we distributed food bags to families. #SomosRiver," he noted.

Nourishing Bodies and Lifting Spirits

The missionaries from River are not only delivering food and essential resources; they are also gifting toys and creating joyful moments for the children, which are increasingly rare in Cuban communities. For many kids, these gifts might be their first toy in a long time or even their only one.

The report describes the team's presence as "a beacon of light and hope." Each delivery, they say, is an act that helps sustain a community besieged by illness, scarcity, and constant challenges.

Faith in Action

The assistance aims not only to meet immediate needs but also to uplift spirits, provide companionship, and demonstrate solidarity during times when everyday life has become especially tough for Cuban families.
