The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed on Saturday that Rigoberto Guerra, a Cuban citizen, was apprehended in New Orleans for allegedly possessing over 50 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

Captured by officers from the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) team in New Orleans, Guerra now finds himself listed among the individuals featured in ICE's "Worst of the Worst" campaign, a roster designed to highlight immigrants deemed "high-risk" by the agency.

Official reports indicate that the Cuban national, whose additional personal details remain undisclosed, had a documented criminal history in the United States. He is being held in custody as his potential deportation proceedings progress.

Wave of Cuban Arrests Continues in the U.S.

Guerra's arrest adds to a growing number of similar detentions involving Cubans in recent months in this American city. Earlier in August, ICE announced the arrest of Eduardo Fundora-Setién, 59, who had been convicted in Louisiana for second and third-degree domestic assault.

This case was also publicized under the "Worst of the Worst" campaign, reflecting the federal government's intention to expedite the removal of foreigners with significant criminal convictions.

Shortly thereafter, the agency reported the apprehension of Jorge Luis Díaz García, also in New Orleans, who was sought for vehicular assault, various charges of reckless driving, and a previous incident of driving under the influence. His arrest was conducted without incident, according to ICE.

Concerns Over Deportation Destinations

The primary concern within the community revolves around the fate of these detainees. Many Cubans with final deportation orders remain in facilities like the controversial "Alligator Alcatraz," as the Cuban government frequently refuses to accept deportees who have committed crimes in the U.S.

Nevertheless, in recent months, Washington has been pressing to utilize every legal avenue available to enforce deportations, even considering third-country options. This shift has stirred anxiety among migrants and their families.
