Democratic Congressman Al Green from Texas has declared his intention to introduce new impeachment articles against President Donald Trump before the year's end. This move aims to compel a vote in the House of Representatives, despite the chamber being dominated by the president's Republican allies.

"It's not enough just to introduce them, we need to bring them to a vote," Green expressed to reporters in front of the Capitol.

"We will present these articles as a privileged resolution, and there will be a vote. The consequences will follow," he emphasized.

Green did not disclose the number of impeachment articles he plans to submit or specify which presidential actions he intends to challenge. However, he stressed that his mission is to uphold the constitutional order, as reported by The Hill. "During our tenure, we refuse to allow our democracy to vanish," he asserted.

Green's proposal has slim chances of advancing, given the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Nevertheless, the congressman insists his motives are beyond political calculations.

"The constitutional duty does not require consultation with party leaders or anyone else," he pointed out, highlighting that he hasn't coordinated with Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries or other party figures.

This is not Green's first attempt to initiate an impeachment motion against Trump. In 2017, during Trump's first term, he was the first Democrat to bring impeachment articles to the floor, responding to what he termed "incitement to racial hatred" after the white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In a more recent instance this June, Green forced another vote on a single impeachment article, accusing Trump of overstepping his presidential authority by ordering military strikes against Iran without Congressional approval.

The motion was overwhelmingly defeated, with 344 votes against and 79 in favor, receiving support from key Democratic leaders for the Republican stance.

Despite the lack of backing within his own party, Green believes the current situation demands an immediate response. "The president's daily transgressions cannot wait," he declared. "The Constitution doesn't specify that a prior majority is needed to initiate an impeachment process."

Meanwhile, Democratic leaders are pursuing a different political strategy, focusing on corruption issues and living costs as part of their efforts to weaken Trump ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Trump's Republican allies have dismissed Green's initiative as a "meaningless political gesture."

Green maintains that even if the impeachment process doesn't succeed, it's a moral and legal obligation. "Impeach, convict, and remove is the remedy because the Supreme Court has granted him immunity," he stated, referring to the recent ruling that restricts the potential for prosecuting the president for official acts.
