After more than 20 years apart, former Cuban Major League Baseball player Jorge Luis Toca recently reunited with his father in Tampa, marking the end of a lengthy family reunification process. This heartfelt moment was shared by journalist Francys Romero on social media.

Their long separation spanned 22 years, characterized by emigration, distance, and the challenges faced by countless Cuban families divided due to the island's ongoing crisis and the stringent migration policies enforced by the Havana regime.

This reunion comes at a more stable point in Toca's life. Known for his stint with the New York Mets, Toca's story is one of many where, after years of anticipation, families finally achieve their dream of reuniting in the United States.

Originally from Villa Clara, Toca left Cuba illegally in 1998, making his MLB debut the following year. Despite the promise of a bright career, his time in the "Big Show" fell short of expectations, as detailed by the specialized site Swing Completo.

The publication noted that the Queens team already had John Olerud, a consistent hitter, in Toca's position. Olerud had previously averaged .354 with 22 home runs and 93 RBIs. When Olerud left for the Seattle Mariners, it was thought that Toca would get more playing time in the 2000 season. However, Todd Zeile took over first base for 153 games, limiting Toca to just seven appearances at the plate.

Nearly two decades later, Toca, who was renowned for his exceptional defense at first base, now treasures his father's presence in the country that welcomed him as one of its own.
