José Daniel Ferrer Calls for Miami Rally to Support Cuban Political Prisoners on Hunger Strike

Sunday, November 16, 2025 by Grace Ramos

Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer, who was exiled last October after spending over two years in arbitrary detention, has called for a demonstration in support of political prisoners currently on hunger strike in various Cuban prisons.

“If you live in Miami or nearby and want to join us in expressing solidarity with the political prisoners on hunger strike, as well as all other political prisoners, meet us at 2:00 p.m. at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, 1200 SW Coral Way, Miami,” Ferrer announced on his X account (formerly known as Twitter).

The gathering, scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, November 16, aims to shed light on the plight of dozens of prisoners of conscience who, according to human rights organizations, are subjected to inhumane conditions within the Cuban regime's prisons.

Since being exiled, the founder of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) has dedicated his efforts to exposing prison repression and establishing economic and humanitarian support networks for the families of those detained for political reasons.

In recent weeks, Ferrer has warned that there are over 700 political prisoners in Cuba, asserting that the country's prisons are akin to "Nazi concentration camps" due to the level of cruelty faced by inmates.

The opposition leader has emphasized that his forced exile does not signify surrender but marks a new phase in the fight "for those who have no voice on the island." From Miami, he has amplified calls for Cuban unity to demand the release of all political prisoners and an end to repression.

The rally at the Museum of the Cuban Diaspora seeks to bring together activists, exiles, and human rights advocates to send a unified message of support to those on hunger strike and all others imprisoned for political reasons.

“We remain steadfast, from any location, for the freedom of Cuba and our political prisoners,” Ferrer reiterated.
