An unexpected breakdown at one of Havana's manufactured gas production plants early Wednesday morning left five districts without service, according to official reports.

The Manufactured Gas Company announced via its WhatsApp channel that at 4:00 a.m. on November 12, a malfunction occurred at Production Plant No. 1. This incident "forced a service halt" in Old Havana, Centro Habana, Cerro, 10 de Octubre, and Plaza de la Revolución.

While the state-run entity mentioned that they "immediately assessed the situation and began working on a solution," they did not specify what caused the interruption in the gas supply for these areas.

Later in the day, a statement posted on the Union Cuba-Petroleum (Cupet) Facebook page confirmed that the Manufactured Gas Company had begun gradually restoring service to the affected districts.

The disruption in gas delivery sparked frustration among residents, who were also dealing with power outages and water shortages in several neighborhoods on Wednesday.

As of the publication of this article, it remains unclear if the service has been fully reinstated across the entire network.

The issues with manufactured gas supply in the capital are indicative of the ongoing energy crisis in Cuba, exacerbated by the persistent shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Frequent breakdowns in Havana's manufactured gas distribution network and the scarcity of LPG, which is distributed in small canisters across the provinces, worsen the already dire domestic fuel situation. This continues to impact Cuban households, while authorities have yet to offer a comprehensive solution.
