Dreaming of collaborating with Luis Fonsi and performing regularly on a Miami stage, Cuban artist Dany Baxter spends his days bringing cheer to strangers across the city.
Equipped with a microphone and a warm smile, Baxter turns his car into a stage and the road into his audience, surprising those who cross his path with his musical talent.
In a conversation with journalist Javier Díaz, Baxter shared that he has been dedicated to operatic singing since the age of 16. After leaving Cuba, he has been working to revive his musical career in the United States.
"I spent four years singing opera; that was my main study. I decided to pursue something more organic, where people could see me perform live," he explained.
Every day is a unique journey for Baxter. He acknowledges that not everyone reacts the same way when he honks to get their attention.
"You have to be tactful because not everyone rolls down their window. Sometimes they're surprised, sometimes they respond well, and other times not so much. It's unpredictable," he says, laughing.
His goal is straightforward: to brighten the day for those who might be going through a tough time.
"What I'm doing is trying to lift the spirits of people who might be having a difficult day. Many are caught off guard; they don't expect it," he assures.
While he continues to dream of performing on a stage or singing in a restaurant or nightclub in Miami, Dany Baxter keeps driving through the streets with his voice and determination.
"I am the living example that I haven't reached where I want to be yet, but I know I will. My advice is not to give up," he declares confidently.
And although many wonder how he manages to project his voice from the car, the young singer chooses to keep that a secret.
"That's a trick I don't want to reveal just yet," he says with a smile.
