The cost of gasoline in Florida experienced an increase of 11 cents per gallon last week.

According to The Auto Club Group (AAA), despite the recent hike, the state average has not surpassed the $3 mark.

Throughout the previous week, the state average fluctuated, starting at $2.92 on Sunday, dropping to $2.87 by Tuesday, and then climbing back to $2.98 per gallon by Friday.

"Gas prices continue to oscillate at Florida stations, with the state average dipping for 5 to 10 days before surging back up by 10 to 25 cents," stated Mark Jenkins, a spokesperson for AAA.

"Fortunately, this week's increase was modest, and drivers are still encountering some of the year's lowest prices," he added.

Experts suggest these fluctuations are influenced by shifts in oil prices and seasonal fuel supply adjustments. Although the recent rise was mild, motorists should remain vigilant for potential hikes in the coming weeks.

In terms of the most expensive locations, West Palm Beach leads at $3.14, followed by Naples at $3.05 and Ocala at $3.01. On the other hand, the cheapest prices were found in Crestview-Fort Walton Beach at $2.67, Pensacola at $2.66, and Panama City at $2.72.

This past Labor Day, Florida witnessed the lowest holiday gasoline prices since the pandemic began in 2020.

On that date, the state average for regular unleaded was $3.11, down from $3.30 the previous year and far below the record high of $4.89 reached in June 2022.

Nationally, the average was $3.20 per gallon, the lowest since 2020, during the COVID lockdowns when fuel demand plummeted.

The Trump administration welcomed this forecast, with White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers telling the New York Post, "From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans have saved at the pump with the lowest prices in five years."

Experts such as Patrick De Haan from GasBuddy attribute the relief to falling oil prices—about $64 per barrel—and robust global production.

There is even speculation that prices could dip below $3 per gallon this fall, depending on the hurricane season.

This respite at the pump comes amid an economy where many families continue to face high costs for groceries, rent, and services.

"Reducing energy expenses means an immediate boost in household cash flow, especially benefiting low- and middle-income families," stated Joe LaVorgna, a Treasury advisor, to CNN.

Florida has seen a consistent downward trend in gas prices over recent months, notwithstanding some sporadic spikes linked to geopolitical tensions.

The state recorded some of its lowest levels since 2023, with averages nearing $3 per gallon, providing relief to drivers during the spring season.

However, the outbreak of conflict between Iran and Israel temporarily drove up fuel prices due to concerns over the stability of international oil supplies.

This incident caused a brief increase in prices in Florida and beyond, though it was soon followed by a rapid market stabilization.

Recently, prices have once again declined, reaching levels akin to those before the pandemic, which has been interpreted as a positive sign for the domestic economy.

Factors such as high global production and the behavior of strategic reserves have helped maintain this relief at the pump.
